Hi, everyone!
Guess what? I've hit another snag with my passport. The government has informed me that I did not give my birth certificate but a birth card. What in the world is a birth card? I thought that I gave my birth certificate. Just what I needed three weeks before I leave the country...at least try to, anyways.
I thought to talk with my mom. I asked, "Momma, where is my birth certificate?" She said that I had it. "No, I don't. I have a birth card." I heard my mother hurumph and tell me that she was given the documents that I have. She asked why. I told her that the government needed it for my passport to be completed. What was this madness?! I've never had my birth certificate all my life?!
Well, after many minutes having a shutdown with my husband trying to calm me down, I finally called the place that I was born - Matagorda County, Texas. (The county's name happens to mean the feminine version of "kill fat" in Spanish. Go figure.) I was greeted by a lovely Southern woman who worked with me to figure out what I needed to do. She even pulled out my original birth certificate from the records! The Southern Belle mailed out my "long form" birth certificate for me as fast as she could. I really appreciated her time and effort to help me. I should be receiving it in the mail either today or tomorrow. As soon as I have it in my hands, I will send it priority to the passport center. I need this passport! I hope they hurry.
I'm crossing my fingers and keeping busy.
