In less than a week, we leave the United States for the first time to another country - Europe! I'm excited, anxious, and fidgety. Why can't we be on the plane already?
Each time I have had a flight ticket, the last week would be the worst week to wait. Time plays a sadistic trick and ticks slowly.
Last we left off, I was having problems with my birth certificate. I finally was able to alleviate that problem today. After many calls with southern-accented women saying, "Sir, sir, you need to calm down" or "Sir, I can't help you", I was able to receive my birth certificate. This document was the second order. The first was lost in the mail. (Not the first time we have had that happen to us at this apartment.)
Then I shipped that BC overnight to the passport agency. Woohoo!
In this last week, we're going to be wrapping up details. Changing addresses, moving what we're not bringing or donating into storage, packing, preparing important documents, visiting friends and family, finishing our jobs, and preparing ourselves mentally are all on the agenda. We're not finished until the airplane's wheels are off the ground.
This birth certificate was frightening us. We waited and waited. We gave up and ordered another, but we had a company pick it up for us and deliver it to our door the next day.
We were afraid that I couldn't board the plane or that we would have to cancel our trip. Yikes!
Even scarier, I am now realizing little details that I didn't know about myself. For instance, I was told as a child that I was born in Bay City, Texas. Wrong. Precisely, I was born in Van Vleck, TX. And I'm just now learning this as a 23-year-old?! What the heck? I was born in Van Vleck? (Couldn't resist.) At least it's in the same county.
My goodness, this has been so stressful. But, I grinned sending off this BC. That's one thing done. Now, for more!
